Say goodbyeto misbehaviour and

hello to parenting bliss...

Right now you’re at the end of your rope.

You’ve followed all the advice, Googled ‘til your eyes crossed, tried every Pinterest-inspired “hack” you can find, but still your kid...

...is having massive meltdowns.

...has totally lost their “listening ears”.

...is rude and ignores you.

...keeps lashing out.

...can’t handle change.

...is destructive and defiant.

You feel like you need to “set better boundaries,” be more “consistent,” and engage your child in more “structured learning activities,”

BUT...

…you’re just barely keeping up with the latest demand for a snack, you’re tired, and are running on adrenaline and coffee trying to raise well behaved (and mostly lovable) tiny humans.

It already feels like you’re keeping your head barely above water; without throwing on the pressure to do all the things, for all the people! You don’t have time for any of this!

So when your little one takes forever to get things done, loses their cool, or morphs into full-on Darth Toddler, it can seem impossible to know what to do to manage and correct their behaviour.

Here's the surprising fact you are probably missing:

Children do well if they can, and if they aren't it's because they don't have the skills to.

If all the interventions in the world aren’t improving your child’s behaviour—it’s for one simple reason:

Tips, tricks, and one-off strategies aren't enough.

What your child needs is to learn to use one or more of the eight core mental skills (a.k.a: executive functioning skills) required to think, feel, and act sensibly. Without these skills your child can’t stay calm, remember directions, or build lasting friendships. The challenge is that your child wasn’t born with these skills. But they can learn them!

Imagine being able to correct your child's behaviour without massive meltdowns or losing your ever-loving mind!

mom and son

Picture this with me:

You’re rushing to get out the door with your 1 and 4 year olds when it hits you: your 4 year old has put on his socks and shoes, just as you asked. His shoes even match! As you rush around throwing last minute things in the bag you ask him to help his sister with her shoes, and when you come back—they’re on! The right feet!

As he helps his sister stand up she accidentally pushes him to the ground and you see a hand fly out. You brace for the scream—but it never comes:

“UGH, Sissy, please be careful, I don’t like it when you push me!”

Is this for real? Are you DREAMING?

Pulling up to play group you remind your son that there will be children who look his age, but are much younger than him and to be kind. As you walk inside it’s pure pandemonium, and you quickly retreat to your group of friends around the coffee maker. Every time a child screams you tense up and wait to hear the familiar screams of “MOM!!”, but every single time it’s someone else’s child.

You graciously accept compliments from the other parents about how kind, sweet, and what a great leader your child is. They ask you what your secret is—just a few months ago he was barrelling over other children, hitting when he wanted a toy, and melting down when it was time to leave.

When it comes time to leave, you give a five minute warning and ask your child to locate his shoes. You’re floored to see him ready and waiting to go, happily waving goodbye to his friends- no tears!

Upon returning home your son requests a peanut butter sandwich, but you’re out of his preferred bread.

“That’s okay, maybe I’ll just have some soup then.” he replies.

You finally feel like you can breathe—the time and effort you spend getting through a day is greatly reduced, your son is happier and more confident in his abilities. You can’t wait to keep going, watching him grow and take on the world.

Did you read this and think, “there is no way that is possible for my child...”

If so, let me show you how.

Are you thinking this program could never work for YOU?

Because you’re too busy?
This will take no more than 10-30 minutes a day,
you can even work this program during your drive to daycare!

Because your child is “so out of control?”
Your kiddo isn’t out of control- they’re stressed!
By building up their skills, we’ll reduce their stress. And you’ll see the
extreme meltdowns gradually disappear.

Because you’ve tried other “gentle” ways before?
Uncommon Sense Parenting isn’t a lack of discipline. I’m going to show you how you can discipline your children with respect and empathy- and that actually works!

Here’s what I can tell you: My program has worked for HUNDREDS of families from many different countries and many different backgrounds. It can work for you, too!

So, who am I?

Hi, I’m Allana Robinson. I’m a Parenting Coach for parents of toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners and I specialize in helping you understand why your child is misbehaving and how to fix it without yelling, shaming or using time-outs.

I’m also Mom to two wonderful kids. Using the knowledge and resources I’ve gained as a Registered Early Childhood Educator and Developmental Specialist, I put together ParentAbility to give parents an easy to digest, simple to implement, and wildly supportive program that will completely change how you view your child, how you parent, and therefore—your child’s behaviour. The most important thing I’ve learned over the years is that to inspire change in our children we need to change how we function as parents. I look forward to helping you on your journey to a happier, healthier relationship with your child

Frequently Asked Questions:

This is a self-paced self-study program: there’s no ahead or behind. How you use the resources and when are entirely up to you. Generally with typical children I don’t expect to see real durable change before approximately the 3-month mark, assuming you implement daily. Members have seen improvements on a shorter timeline, but I consider those exceptional results.

Show up, do the work, put in the time with your kids—and you WILL see a reduction in the behaviours that drive you crazy. Can I guarantee this? No. Much of it depends on the amount and consistency of work you put in. But the tools, materials, and support you need are all there for you to succeed—you just need to apply them.

As soon as you reserve your spot in the program you’ll be shown a confirmation screen. Within about 5 minutes you should receive your welcome packet in your email inbox with instructions on how to log in, download the community app, and get started.

This program is aimed at children 2 to 6 years old. The concepts are universal, however—and although the outcome of strong executive skills changes as a child ages, the foundational concepts do not. We have many parents who are using these concepts with their older children with great success- and we include the Big Kid Action Plan bonus to help adapt the strategies to your big kid!

It depends on the payment schedule you choose. Monthly members will have access for as long as they remain up to date on their fees, and will be removed from the portal and the community once they cancel. Yearly members will have access for 365 days from the date of payment unless they renew.

It’s not uncommon for parents to be “working from different playbooks.” Just as we believe that children do well if they can- we believe parents do well if they can too! We include the Same Page Parenting Plan bonus in ParentAbility- not to help you coerce your co-parent into “doing things your way.” But to get real clarity on your partner’s concerns, fears, priorities, and guide you through addressing them in a constructive way that meets both of your needs!

I have yet to speak to a therapist or teacher that isn’t supportive of ParentAbility strategies. For some educators and therapists the perspective we use is very new and unfamiliar, though. To help parents communicate openly and clearly with the rest of their team we provide the Continuity of Care bonus package which has every resource necessary to get your child’s teachers, therapists, and care providers on board and up to speed. If your child has a special need and you’re concerned about ParentAbility interfering with their existing therapy- please send us a message and we’ll happily help you determine if that would be the case!

We strive to make our community and program as inclusive and diverse as possible. We believe Black Lives Matter. We are LBGTQ+ allies. We are consistently changing and adapting our program to be accessible to as many humans as possible. Our materials strive to represent as many abilities, races, genders, and religions as possible. We’ll be honest: we’re not perfect. We are still learning. But we are actively revising and improving our program on an ongoing basis, and we welcome feedback and take swift action to remedy any oversights. We want every family of every format to feel safe here.
